On Saturday 25 January 2014, the Northern Ireland Fencing Open took place at the Avoniel Leisure Centre, Belfast. This being a Commonwealth Games year, the entries were up on previous years. Victoria won the event, with Rachael Philpott 3rd. Victoria won all her matches on route to the title and is the first time in 9 years that the trophy has been won by a Northern Irish Fencer.
It also follows a great effort by Victoria, the previous fortnight, at the Scottish Open. Again, the entries were very strong, with the Scottish fencers seeking qualification for the Commonwealths. Victoria managed to achieve a 3rd place, eliminating the No7 ranked UK fencer, and only succombing to the UK No 4 in the semi final.
