  • Sullivan win the Schools Cup

    The Sullivan Upper 1stXI Boys Hockey team won the Schools (Burney) Cup, defeating Wallace HS 3-2 in a thrilling final in front of a large crowd at Stormont on Thursday 16 March. Congratulations to the whole squad and to coaching team! Thanks too to all who came to support the boys.

  • 1st XI Boys’ Hockey Team Progress to Final of Burney Cup

    Following a hard-earned victory over Banbridge Academy in the semi-final, the 1st XI Boys Hockey team has reached the final of the Schools (Burney) Cup. The final, against Wallace High School, is to be played at Civil Service (Stormont) at 7pm on Thursday 16 March 2017. Support from pupils, parents and the wider school community would be most welcome and particularly appreciated by all of the boys involved.

  • Public Speaking – Iona O’Neill and Erin Johnson

    Iona O’Neill and Erin Johnson (Year 13) both participated in The Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition on Wednesday 22 February 2017 in the Senate Chamber at Stormont. Facing stiff competition from 28 speakers, both girls excelled in their confident and persuasive speeches. Iona spoke on “Education – A box-ticking exercise?” and was Highly commended (2nd) while Erin’s topic was “Man is a mine rich in gems”. Their excellent content and convincing delivery assured them high praise- we should anticipate further success from these two gifted orators.

  • Fencing: Round 4 of the NI Junior Foil Series

    Fencing: Sullivan at Round 4 of the Northern Ireland Junior Foil Series SU Fencers at NIJFS R4 En garde! Sunday 5 February saw the 4th round of the NI Junior Foil Series held at Hunterhouse College in Belfast. Seventeen SU fencers competed across 4 age groups; results below. U12 Girls Emma Yeaman took U12 silver, having again made the final in this category. From the 4 rounds so far, she has had one win and three second places, maintaining her position as series leader. Olivia White won her 4th bronze of the series, keeping her at number 3 in the rankings, while Alex Burke kept her 5th place in the table with a 6th place finish on the day. U12 Boys Alexander Penny and Jonah McConnell fought well, but had some tough competition in this age group, finishing 10th and 11th. U14 Girls Sullivan girls brought home 3 medals in the U14s: silver, plus 2 bronze. Anna Vaughan took the silver after making the final for the 4th time in succession, her 4 second places giving her a narrow series points lead. Willow Wolsey and Izzy Evans shared the bronze medal honours; Izzy now holding 3rd in the series rankings, Willow 5th. Ruzi Statham made the quarter-finals, but remained just outside the medals in 5th place, while Victoria Morris also made the quarters and finished 8th. Tara Millar, Angharad King and Rachel McKillen were 9th, 11th and 12th. U14 Boys Sullivan’s four musketeers, namely Cormac Kitchen, Oliver Galbraith, Jonathan Mallon and Benjamin Griffiths once again represented SU in the boys’ U14s. Ben, Cormac and Jonathan all made the quarter finals, finishing 5th, 6th and 7th. Unfortunately Oliver and Jonathan were drawn against each other in the last 16, where Jonathan narrowly edged out his teammate 15-13 in a long and close-fought bout.     The Schools Cup semi-final will be held on Wednesday 8 February 2017 at 2.00 pm at Lisnagarvey against Banbridge. All support is welcome.

  • Girls Hockey January News

    Congratulations to the 1st XI Girls Hockey squad who beat Methody 1-0 last Wednesday to progress to the Semi Final of the Schools Cup. Erin Camlin claiming the decisive goal. Hockey results from Saturday 29 January 2017 were as follows: 1st, 2A’s, 2B’s U13A, U13B and U12A all beat Omagh Academy on Saturday morning with special mention to Emily Rose in Year 8 for scoring a hattrick. The U14A also progressed to the semi-final of the Junior Shield beating Coleraine Grammar School 4-0.

    For the Medallion Shield 4th Round, Sullivan have been drawn away to Wallace High School on Saturday 28 January 2017. The game will kick off at 10.30 am all support is welcome.
