  • International Football – Harry Wilson

    Harry Wilson, Year 8, was a member of the Club NI 04 , the Northern Ireland Under 12 football team which competed in the Westend Cup in Berlin 6-8 May 2016. The team won the tournament beating amongst others German Bundesliga academy teams, Borussia Dortmund , Hertha Berlin and FC Augsburg. Harry had the honour of captaining the side in a match.

  • Hockey News – Former Pupil, Michael Robson

    Congratulations to past pupil Michael Robson on his 50th cap for Ireland during the series of matches against Korea in Dublin. A fantastic achievement and hopefully many more caps to be awarded in the future.

  • SU Fencing Club End of Year Report 2016

    Sullivan N Ireland Fencing Champion The 2015/16 junior fencing season came to a close with the last round of the Northern Ireland Junior Foil Series, held on Sat 7th May. The NIJFS is a series of 6 tournaments held by school and independent fencing clubs across N Ireland (including Sullivan), from November through to May, to find the country’s best junior fencers in U10, U12, U14 and U16 age groups. This year Sullivan Upper year 12 Rachel Smyth took the U16 Girls’ Championship, narrowly beating her fellow SU fencer Ella Reid into second place. The two Sullivan girls vied for the series points lead all year, ending with Rachel beating Ella in the final of the last round to take the overall championship win by a single point! Rachel Smyth, N Ireland U16 Foil Champion Ella Reid, N Ireland U16 Foil 2nd In the U14 Girls category, Sullivan fencers were prominent in the results throughout the year, with Erin Maginn, Phoebe McPherson and Anna Vaughan (last year’s U12 champion) all winning gold, silver or bronze medals across the six rounds. Erin had a hesitant start to the year in round 1 with a 3rd place, but quickly improved to finish the series with three consecutive wins in rounds 4 to 6. This took her to 2nd place overall, just 3 points away from the championship win. Phoebe and Anna finished the year 4th and 5th respectively in the final rankings, while year 8 Willow Wolsey, in her first year in competition finished a creditable 9th. Erin Maginn, N Ireland U14 Foil 2nd Meanwhile in the U12 Girls category, year 8 Tara Millar put in consistant performances throughout the year, winning 2 silvers and 2 bronzes from the six rounds. This took her to 2nd place overall in the rankings in her first year in fencing. Another SU year 8, Chloe Stevenson, also in her first year in fencing, finished 5th overall, winning a silver and a bronze on the way. Unfortunately, there is no Irish competition for the Mini age group.

  • District Athletics Results 2016

    Sullivan District Athletics Results 2016 Congratulations to all those athletes who qualified for the Ulster Finals at Antrim Forum on the 20 & 21 May.   • BBC Microbit distributed to Year 8 pupils

    The Computing Department distributed a BBC Micro Bit to all pupils in Year 8 during their ICT lesson. In class pupils will be using the BBC Microbit web site and will be free to use this site outside school to experiment with the device.  BBC have issued terms-of-use guidelines which you can view at www.microbit.co.uk/terms-of-use. The devices are distributed free of charge by the BBC to Year 8 pupils, they will be free to take them home after class. If your son/daughter does not want the micro:bit we would be happy to have it returned to school for use with other pupils .

    The 1st and 2nd XI hockey teams were hosted by the school at the Dirty Duck in Holywood in recognition of their successful seasons.   • Joe Heatley wins Open Racketlon Competition

    Joe Heatley (13C) competed last weekend in Northern Ireland’s 2nd Annual Open Racketlon competition held in Dromore Community Centre. The event is run by the Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council.  This involved competing in the sports of tennis, badminton, squash and table tennis. Racketlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and a number of the competitors hold world rankings. Joe won the competition for a second year in a row without the loss of a match!

    Congratulations to Matthew Crookshanks (Yr13) on being selected for an Ulster U17 team that will play a series of matches against Scotland and England during the May Day weekend at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in England.

  • Netball Triumph!

    Congratulations to the Year 8 Sullivan team on winning the South Eastern Trophy.  After progressing from the group stage, playing against the seven other teams in their section, the girls went on to defeat Glenlola in the semi-final and Assumption Grammar in an exciting and closely-fought final, winning 3-2 in the end. The victorious team:  Darcy Graham (captain), Lucy Benson, Hannah Boyd, Jolee Campton, Madi Crawshay-Ralston, Sarah Gaw, Faye Griffiths, Serena Stout, Laura Whiteside and Willow Wolseley.

  • Boys Hockey – King Cup match – 1st XI Hockey

    In the annual King Cup match against Methody saw Sullivan 1st XI finish on a high. The final game for players in Year 14  players met on Wednesday 12 April 2016 to play the match in front of a good crowd. Sullivan started well and scored in the first 5 minutes through a goal from Tom Robson. Sullivan controlled the game had numerous opportunities to add further goals, between missed chances and good goal keeping from the Methody keeper the scored remained 1 nil at half time. In the second half Sullivan gain continued to put pressure on the Methody defence and John Matchett scored his hat-trick. Sullivan won the match. The trophy was presented to Sullivan by Mr King in memory of son and has been played for over 20 years. Final Score Sullivan 4 (J Matchett 3 and T Robson) – Methody 0
